Leonardtown Vol. Fire Dept. recognized as "Maryland's Most Beautiful People" for St. Mary's County

Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department recognized as “Maryland’s Most Beautiful People” for St. Mary’s County

The Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department has been chosen to represent St. Mary’s County at the 17th Annual “Maryland’s Most Beautiful People” Volunteer Awards ceremony held at St. John’s College in Annapolis on Wednesday, November 12, 2003.

The Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department was nominated and chosen for its long history of providing fire prevention, fire protection and peace of mind to the citizens for 75 years. Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department was the first organized fire department in St. Mary’s County; dedicated service from its members include four with more than 50 years of service and 10 with more than 40 years of service. The Department’s extensive fire prevention program, conducted in local schools, has been recognized at the local, state and national level. In addition, members of the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department have shown a continued commitment to community through their participation in social activities such as the Christmas Tree Lighting in Town Square.

The Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department was among the following list of nominees recognized by the Board of County Commissioners, the Office of Community Services and the Director of the “Maryland You Are Beautiful” Program, at St. Mary’s County’s Ceremony on Tuesday, October 7, 2003: Susan Rae Lobas, Audrey Ridgell, Keith Fairfax, Thurman Harmon, Richard Russell, Marguerite Morris, Al Potts, and Wendy Povitsky.
