Leonardtown Receives Smart Growth Award

Posted on November 09, 2002:
On Thursday, September 19th in Baltimore, a Smart Growth Award was presented by Governor Parris N. Glendening to the Town of Leonardtown in the category of Redevelopment and Revitalization. This prestigious award recognizes the Town, community leaders and residents who have worked together to create a vibrant and attractive downtown area in keeping with the State’s Smart Growth initiative. Together, they have successfully advocated keeping major public facilities, including the post office and county court house, downtown. Streetscape improvements, façade enhancements, new shops, restaurants, offices, and community activities are bringing new life to downtown Leonardtown.

The Smart Growth Awards honor outstanding projects and activities throughout Maryland that best exemplify the principles of the State’s Smart Growth and Neighborhood Conservation policies and programs. The Town of Leonardtown is very proud to receive this award and thanks all those who had any part in this endeavor.

J. Harry Norris, III, Mayor
