Activities Planned for
Leonardtown’s 300th Anniversary
Collector’s Series Newspaper pull out
section
The County Times is featuring a 4 part collector’s series
pullout beginning in May thru the anniversary in December. Each
issue will feature a different segment of Leonardtown.
Wharf Public Park Grand Opening
An open house was held on May 16, 2008 to celebrate the opening
of the Leonardtown Wharf Public Park. Leonardtown restaurants
participated featuring one of their specialties. A special historic
photo collection was displayed and may be on display at other
events.
Leonardtown Cookbook
In celebration and to commemorate the Town of Leonardtown's
300th Birthday, a cookbook has been assembled with recipes from
local folks and avid supporters of the Town. This
Commemorative Cookbook made its debut at Beach Party on the Square
on Saturday, August 9, 2008 and sells for $15.00 (including tax).
Come one, Come all! Purchase a Commemorative Cookbook for yourself,
for your friends or put one or two away for a birthday or Christmas
gift. Check out the old time photos. Cook up an old time
recipe you don't often see, hear or get to taste much any more
unless your lucky enough.
College of Southern Maryland
Friday Night Lecture Series
CSM will host Friday night lectures on Leonardtown history on
6/6, 8/1, 9/5 and 10/3 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Art/Essay Contest
An art and essay contest was held for students throughout the public
and private schools in Leonardtown. Entries were received and
judged. The winners will be presented with a $100 saving bond.
Exhibit – Tudor Hall
An exhibition on the James Adams Floating Theatre and Its Visits
to Leonardtown, 1915-1935, presented by the St. Mary’s County
Historical Society, will be on display at Tudor Hall, 41680 Tudor
Place, Leonardtown, from September 8 – October 3, 2008.
Maritime Weekend
A special day of activities is planned at the Wharf on September
13, 2008 The day will be filled with family oriented water related
exhibits and activities. Newtowne Players will be performing a
special play throughout the day.
Town Hall Open House
December 17, 2008 we will host an open house at the Town Hall to
celebrate our 300th birthday.
Postmark
A one day postmark on December 17th will be used by the Post
Office featuring the 300th Anniversary Logo.
Normal Events
We are planning special activities at each of our normal town
events throughout the year.
