The Town owns and operates its own wastewater treatment plant and provides its own water.  Facilities are managed and maintained by a professional staff which receives continual training on the latest procedures, regulations, and techniques.   The Town's water supply and wastewater treatment meets or exceeds all federal standards.

A ribbon cutting was held April 11, 2018 to celebrate the completion of the State mandated upgrade to an Enhanced Nutrient Removal process at the Leonardtown Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The project construction was awarded to MEB Contractors, a Chesapeake, VA based company.  The engineering firm for the project wwas GHD, Inc. from Bowie, MD.  Funding for the $22 million project was provided by The Commissioners of Leonardtown, St. Mary's Metropolitan Commission, The State of Maryland through the Bay Restoration Fund, and The Water Quality Financing Administration.
