Activities Planned for Leonardtown’s 300th Anniversary

Collector’s Series Newspaper pull out section
The County Times is featuring a 4 part collector’s series pullout beginning in May thru the anniversary in December. Each issue will feature a different segment of Leonardtown. The May issue will cover Leonardtown today as well as what is coming up in future editions. It will feature the many businesses in Town and the exciting projects moving forward. The July issue will focus on services, government and the major developments. The October issue will feature churches, volunteer organizations and historic features. The final issue in December will focus on people and their stories and memories. In each issue there will be a Kids Corner, photos, stories and history. The pull outs will be on high quality paper with a color theme each issue. There will be advertising opportunities for those that are interested. Wharf Public Park Grand Opening
5/16/07- 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m
An open house will be held to celebrate the opening of the Leonardtown Wharf Public Park. We have invited all Leonardtown restaurants to participate in featuring one of their specialties. The O’Neill Project will be performing. There will be a small ceremony held at 2:00. Tours of the park will be held throughout the day. Special historic photo collections will be on display.

Leonardtown Cookbook
We have received over 300 recipes from local residents and businesspeople and are publishing a Leonardtown Anniversary cookbook. The books will be out this summer.

College of Southern Maryland Friday Night Lecture Series
CSM will host Friday night lectures on Leonardtown history on 6/6, 8/1, 9/5 and 10/3 beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Art/Essay Contest
An art and essay contest is in progress for students throughout the public and private schools in Leonardtown.

Maritime Weekend
A special weekend of activities is planned at the Wharf on 9/12-9/14. There will be a Friday night sunset cocktail reception. Saturday will be a family oriented day of water related exhibits and activities. Newtowne Players will be performing a special play throughout the day. Sunday will feature a fashion show and tea.

Town Hall Open House
December 17th we will host an open house at town hall to celebrate our 300th birthday.

Postmark
A one day postmark on December 17th will be used by the Post Office featuring the 300th Anniversary Logo.

Normal Events
We are planning special activities at each of our normal town events throughout the year.
